Activewear Care Guide: Find Washing Instructions by Garment

Quick answer: Check the label on the garment you are washing, then use the matching guide below. A tee, sports bra and pair of lined shorts may need different handling, especially around inserts, grip strips and finishes. Keep the instructions for each item in view when sorting a mixed gym wash.

Start with the garment’s care label

Read the washing, bleaching, drying and ironing directions before sorting your laundry. GINETEX explains that the number in a wash-tub symbol is the maximum permitted washing temperature, while bars below it indicate a gentler process. A crossed-out treatment symbol means that treatment should not be used. Use the GINETEX care-symbol reference when a symbol is unfamiliar.

A fabric name or GSM value cannot replace the label. If the online description and sewn-in instructions disagree, ask the seller to clarify before washing. If the label is missing, send the seller the product name and available label photographs rather than assuming a generic routine is suitable.

Take care around pads, liners and grip strips

Removable pads

Check whether inserts are intended to come out and whether they have separate care directions. An opening in the lining is different from a closed seam. Do not cut stitching to remove fixed padding. After permitted cleaning, let both the pads and pockets dry before reinserting and smoothing them into position.

Attached liners

Treat an attached liner as part of the garment unless the maker says otherwise. Inspect it when checking the washing and drying instructions. The outer shell’s care needs do not automatically describe every inner component.

Grip strips and embroidered details

Use the product’s guidance for cleaning these areas. Do not assume that stronger rubbing, heat or an improvised solvent will restore grip or repair a damaged finish. Photograph a peeling strip, loose thread or distorted component and ask the seller for advice.

Dry and store gym clothing between wears

Unpack damp workout clothes after transport instead of leaving them compressed in the gym bag. If washing must wait, arrange them so they can air; this does not replace washing. After cleaning, follow the label’s drying instructions and allow enough space for air circulation.

Before storing, check thicker areas such as waistbands, pad pockets, cuffs and attached liners. A quick-dry product description does not guarantee a fixed drying time in your room. Consider whether you need a second outfit while the first dries rather than applying heat the label does not permit.

When should you contact the seller?

Ask for help when instructions are absent or conflicting, a component is damaged, or you are unsure whether a change is a care issue or a product fault. Include your order ID, product and variant, clear photographs and the cleaning and drying method used. Do not assume the cause from appearance alone.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wash all my gym clothes together?

Only group items when their labels, colours and construction permit a compatible process. A shared “activewear” label does not establish compatibility.

Does a higher GSM garment need a hotter wash?

No. GSM is fabric mass per area, not a wash-temperature instruction.

Can correct care guarantee that clothing never loses shape?

No. This guide does not promise a wear lifespan or wash-cycle result. Check the garment’s condition and contact the seller about persistent concerns.
