What the calculation includes
For each option, the tool divides 12 months by the assumed usable months and rounds the number of purchases up to a whole item. It then multiplies that number by the item price plus delivery per purchase. An item assumed to last beyond the year still requires one initial purchase.
Use the current checkout total for the variant and seller you are comparing. If delivery is shared across several items, enter only the amount you want allocated to this item and use the same method for both options.
Where the lifespan assumption should come from
Your own purchase history can provide a starting point when the use and care are comparable. A documented product test may inform a separate comparison, but its method and conditions need to apply. If you do not have that evidence, change the input across plausible scenarios and see how much the decision depends on the assumption.

What this tool leaves out
The calculation does not predict repairs, resale value, changing prices, warranty outcomes, care costs or future discounts. It also does not put a price on comfort. Compare those factors separately, especially if two items differ in fit or intended use.
